How to Apply Cement Sealant to Pourous Cement

Applying a cement sealant can help protect the surface of the cement. In order to get the best results, you need to make sure that you apply it properly. Here are the basics of how to apply cement sealant to porous cement.

Step 1. Clean the Cement

Start out by cleaning the surface of the cement. You cannot leave any dust or dirt on the surface, as it will be sealed in once you apply the sealer. You need to first sweep any dust off the floor. You might then want to consider mopping the floor with water to make sure that any traces of dust are completely removed.

Step 2. Etch the Cement

After the cement has dried from the mopping, you will want to etch it. You can use a mixture of vinegar and water, or muriatic acid and water. Etching the cement will provide some traction so that the sealer will adhere to the cement more effectively.

Step 3. Apply the Sealant

Allow the etching solution to dry and then you can apply the sealer. Using a paint roller, roll the sealer onto the cement. Make sure to thoroughly cover the surface. Allow the sealer to dry and then apply a second coat.
