How to Remove Adhesive Residue from Concrete

If you're looking to paint or waterproof one of your home's concrete surfaces, you'll need to remove any adhesive residue before proceeding to do so. Below are the steps you will need to take in order to make your concrete surface adhesive-free.

Step 1 - Clean the Concrete Surface

Before you can remove the adhesive residue, you will need to clean your concrete surface. Begin this step by using a broom and dustpan to sweep up any dust deposits. Next, give the surface a vigorous scrubbing with the aid of a scrub brush and a homemade cleaning solution of hot water and mild liquid soap. Lastly, dry the freshly cleaned surface with a washcloth or paper towel.

Step 2 - Apply Your Adhesive Remover

Now that your concrete surface is nice and clean, it's time to remove the adhesive residue. Start this process by putting on a breathing mask, a pair of rubber gloves and a pair of safety goggles. Also, if you're working indoors, ensure that your work area is properly ventilated. Next, use a paintbrush to apply your adhesive remover to the adhesive-laden areas of your concrete surface. Once the adhesive remover has been applied, allow it to sit for the amount of time specified on the packaging.

Step 3 - Scrape the Residue

You will now need to use a floor scraper to scrape the dried adhesive residue off of your concrete surface. Once all traces of residue have been removed, follow up with another thorough cleaning.
